The March 2023 FOCM | GLSA Networking event

Clinical Trial Recruitment Innovation: March 15, 2023 GLSA Networking Event

Event Date: March 15, 2023

The March FOCM | GLSA Networking Event highlighted clinical trial recruitment innovation and patient-centric technology. The session opened with a welcome to attendees and a reminder of GLSA’s collaborative, open-house format designed to foster meaningful connections across the clinical research community.

Meeting Guidelines

  • Think of these sessions as an open-house event — drop in when you can and leave when you need to.

  • When a presenter is scheduled, they typically begin once a strong group has assembled, usually 10–15 minutes after the start time.

  • Presentations are not sales pitches. Instead, they focus on specific aspects of clinical trials, where services fit into the process, and how they are applied.

GLSA Updates and Community News

During opening remarks, attendees were encouraged to share their LinkedIn profiles to support continued networking. In GLSA news, co-founder Denise McNerney shared an update on her recent move from Virginia to Florida—along with a lighthearted nod to warmer weather.

Featured Presentation: Clinical Trial Recruitment Innovation with Heal Mary

The featured presenter was Cass Hui, founder of Heal Mary, who shared her personal journey from the technology sector into clinical research. Motivated by her family’s experience navigating breast cancer and the difficulty of identifying relevant clinical trials, Cass applied her technical background to improve trial awareness and access.

Rather than operating as a traditional patient recruitment company, Heal Mary provides a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform. Patient advocacy groups and disease foundations use the platform to inform patients about clinical trial opportunities, supporting awareness without adding operational burden to research sites.

Interactive Discussion and Breakout Networking

Cass used the kahoot.it platform to engage attendees with live polling on clinical trial recruitment topics. This interactive approach sparked thoughtful discussion and led into a lively Q&A session.

Following the presentation, attendees joined small breakout rooms to introduce themselves, discuss organizational needs, and explore opportunities to collaborate.
