Clinical Trial Funding Strategy Insights: May 17, 2023 GLSA Networking Event
Event Date: May 17, 2023
Clinical trial funding strategy was the focus of the May 17, 2023 GLSA networking event. As always, our goal was to connect people and companies we know and respect to foster meaningful collaboration. To support ongoing conversations, attendees were encouraged to share their LinkedIn profiles in the chat.
Clinical Trial Funding Strategy and Industry Updates
Before the featured presentation, participants exchanged industry updates and discussed upcoming events. One highlight was the Clinical Research as a Care Option conference held in Raleigh earlier that month. GLSA also shared plans to host a networking event the evening prior.
Additionally, attendees noted that Joan Chambers, newly appointed CEO of Greater Gift, would be participating. Greater Gift focuses on increasing clinical trial awareness, particularly among underrepresented populations, including women, ethnic minorities, and individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
Featured Presentation: Clinical Trial Funding Strategy and Cost Predictability
With 21 attendees present, the meeting transitioned to the featured presentation by Steve Galen of Validcare. His discussion focused on a critical challenge for biotechs: avoiding funding shortfalls before obtaining meaningful product data.
Steve explained how Validcare’s tools help teams plan trials more effectively by identifying cost drivers, predicting bottlenecks, and improving budget accuracy. He also highlighted how modern eClinical technologies improve cost predictability and reduce reliance on outdated CRO practices, such as low-bidding followed by frequent change orders. This approach enables biotechs to manage spend more strategically and reduce financial risk.
Clinical Trial Funding Strategy Takeaways and Next Steps
To keep events accessible and valuable, GLSA follows a consistent structure:
-
Think of these sessions as an open house—join when you can and leave when needed
-
Presenters begin once a strong group has assembled, typically 10–15 minutes in
-
Topics focus on clinical trial processes, not sales pitches
-
Attendees are encouraged to share LinkedIn profiles for continued engagement
