November 2024 Networking Event Recap: Owning Personal Health Data

On November 2oth, the Global Life Sciences Alliance (GLSA) hosted its monthly online networking event, fostering meaningful discussions and connections within the life sciences community. The event welcomed both familiar faces and first-time attendees, creating a dynamic and engaging environment.

Open House Format

As always, the event followed an open-house format, allowing attendees to drop in and leave as needed. To foster connections, participants were encouraged to share their LinkedIn profiles in the chat box. This unique approach makes it easy for professionals to stay connected and collaborate beyond the event.

Industry News and Updates

The session began with a lively discussion on industry news, gossip, conference reviews, and the overall outlook for clinical research. Participants noted signs of increasing activity in the industry, sparking optimism for an improved business climate in 2025.

Featured Topic: Personal Health Data and Research

The highlight of the evening was a thought-provoking presentation by Brittany Gottschalk, founder of Geno.Me, a Data as a Service (DaaS) network. Geno.Me enables patients to share their health information with researchers in a secure, compensated manner, empowering individuals to control their health data and contribute to scientific advancements.

Brittany’s innovative approach and impressive background sparked a deep conversation on the implications, barriers, and opportunities surrounding personal health data ownership and its integration into research. The discussion resonated strongly with attendees, generating high levels of engagement and collaboration.

Event Highlights

The concept of owning personal health data has become a hotbed of controversy and conversation within the life sciences industry. As advancements in technology make it increasingly feasible for individuals to control and monetize their own health information, it raises important questions about privacy, ethics, accessibility, and the commercialization of data. These discussions often spark passionate debates among professionals, as the implications touch on regulatory frameworks, patient rights, and the future of research. This complex and thought-provoking topic made for a fantastic networking event discussion, encouraging attendees to share diverse perspectives, challenge existing norms, and explore innovative solutions for responsibly integrating personal health data into the research ecosystem.

Due to the richness of the discussion, breakout sessions were skipped, and the event wrapped up at 7:45 PM ET. Attendees appreciated the opportunity to explore this relevant and impactful topic in-depth.
